Education

We know how important it is to maximize your exposure and capitalize on your education while thoughtfully balancing  your wellness. At Beaumont, you will get exceptional training in a supportive environment. You will begin your training with an orientation month, filled with team-building opportunities and ways to get to know your faculty and classmates. Throughout your training, you will spend a significant amount of time in the ED with the majority of off-service rotations completed within your PGY1 year. Critical care months are built into your schedule during your PGY1 and PGY2 year with a total of 7 months of dedicated critical care time. You will have the opportunity to care for patients in our large community site, spend dedicated time in our pediatric emergency center, and spend a month on our unique Research and Resuscitation rotation. All of this training will maximize your exposure and prepare you to expertly care for any patient who presents for emergency care.

Emergency department

A total of 25 months spent caring for patients within the Emergency Department.  Our ED months offer high acuity and high volume patient encounters with an emphasis on critical care. Beginning in your first month as an intern, you will help manage some of our sickest patients.

Trauma

As a resident you will have exposure to both blunt and penetrating trauma in Oakland County’s only Level 1 Trauma Center. In addition, you will spend 1 month in the heart of Detroit rotating in a surgical intensive care and experiencing trauma in an off-site ED.

simulation

Team based and solo simulation exposure will take place in our simulation learning institute by dedicated EM simulation faculty.

Longitudinal curriculum

Experience in EMS, patient safety, and quality improvement, observation medicine and exposure to health care disparities will all be part of a longitudinal experience.

pediatrics

A dedicated pediatric emergency center with fellowship-trained faculty, an active pediatric EM fellowship, busy pediatric and neonatal ICUs all within a certified children's hospital makes for excellent exposure to pediatric emergencies and acute care.

ultrasound

Our residents are trained in advanced ultrasound techniques. We boast multiple state-of-the-art ultrasound machines, a research-driven fellowship, and multiple fellowship-trained faculty, so you can be assured that you will develop your ultrasound skills from the best.
